Detailed itinerary
Drive along the promenade overlooking the beach and the Mediterranean Sea to the old biblical city of Jaffa. We begin with a walking tour of Jaffa, one of the oldest cities in Israel, traditionally founded by Japheth (Noah’s son). See the archaeological excavations dating from the early Canaanite period, view the old fishing port and walk through the narrow allies passing the traditional site of the house of Simon the Tanner and visit the local Church named after St. Peter.
We shall stop for a view of the city of Tel Aviv from a nearby viewpoint and visit some of the local art galleries. We continue our walk to the nearby local flea market to enjoy the special atmosphere of this lovely and bustling open-air market. We proceed with a drive to the nearby Neve Tzedek and Neve Shalom neighborhoods, passing by the old Jaffa railway station, following the footsteps of the first settlers and founders of Tel Aviv.
We continue through historical Tel Aviv – Herzl Boulevard and visit the Hall of Independence where David Ben Gurion proclaimed the State of Israel in May 1948. Our walk continues along Rothschild Avenue with its famous Bauhaus architecture buildings, declared by UNESCO “the White City“. We shall see the monument of the Founders and some of the first houses of little Tel Aviv dating from the early days of the city.
Proceed to the Nachalat Binyamin pedestrian mall that leads us to the colorful noisy Carmel market of fruits and vegetables. We cross Allenby street to the Betzalel market where we have an opportunity to taste “Falafel”, Israel’s national food and continue to nearby Sheinkin Street famous for its special little shops and outdoor coffee shops.
We rejoin our tour vehicle and drive through the main streets of the city, passing the Habima theater, Dizengoff street, Rabin square and monument, arriving at the Tel Aviv university for a visit to Beit Hatefuzoth – the Jewish Diaspora museum. Return transfer to a pickup point.
